Senior pitcher/first baseman Grant Fisher and senior catcher Brian Holberton have been nominated for Hot Stove Awards.
Grant Fisher, standing at 6'4, 220 pounds has been nominated as student/athlete of the year. Grant has been a huge asset to the program as a player and a scholar. On the field, Grant will vie for the number one pitching spot as well as the starting job at first base. In the classroom, Grant has been outstanding with an astronomical GPA only making one "B" in his high school career.
Senior standout Brian Holberton was nominated for high school Player of the Year. Brian is a highly touted catcher who signed a scholarship to play for the Tarheels at the end of his junior season. Brian is an outstanding talent and deserves the honor.
Myers Park catcher Brian Holberton has committed to play college baseball for the North Carolina Tarheels of Chapel Hill. The 5'9, 185 pound standout catcher is a team captain and will help anchor the Mustangs for the 2010 season. In 2009 Holberton hit .464 with 30 RBI, 15 doubles and 2 homeruns. Behind the plate, Holberton was a stopper throwing out 60% of baserunners and picking off four. Holberton also had 0 passed balls in 27 games played.
